How to Secure MSP Success Brick by Brick https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=26814 Mon, 10 Jun 2024 07:34:38 +0000 https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=26814 Written by Roman Cuprik, content writer at ESET

Back in 2014, LEGO fans started noticing that some new reddish-brown bricks were brittle and more susceptible to breaking. The issue, known as “brittle brown,” was quite clear — even one faulty brick could spoil the whole impression of a finished build. Being known for maintaining top-quality standards globally, the LEGO Group announced that they fixed the issue a few years later.

In the Managed Service Providers (MSP) market, just like with a building set, every brick matters. It’s not only about IT, cybersecurity, human resources, supply chain, or marketing; all these things need to be put in place to create a successful MSP business.

Being a global leader in cybersecurity, ESET understands that MSPs are like a complicated building structure in which all bricks support one another. That is why the ESET MSP program is designed to be flexible while covering various MSP business needs to maintain a long, fruitful partnership.

A lesson on success from LEGO: Persistence
Some key aspects of LEGO’s success is their persistence in delivering high-quality products to a market that was heavily affected by the rise of computer games and increasingly sophisticated toys, along with LEGO’s partnerships with other recognizable brands.

With ongoing cloudification, outsourcing, compliance issues, and evolution of the cyber-threat landscape, it is no surprise that the Managed Services market is growing. For example, the Datto Global State of the MSP Report: Trends and Forecasts for 2024 found that 68% of MSPs in North America experienced a revenue increase in 2023.

According to Kaseya’s 2024 MSP Benchmark Report, 73% of MSP respondents stated that cybersecurity is a top revenue driver for their businesses, and at the same time, 78% of respondents consider cybersecurity a top IT challenge for their customers.
This MSP business success and the dynamic market growth require being on top of the latest threats, increased competition, or hiring complications. Further, MSPs deal with the question of how to make their growing and increasingly complicated businesses easier to operate.

Sticking together
Keeping all these aspects of the MSP business in mind, ESET created an MSP program and ecosystem that minimizes daily operations and enables users to provide trusted, top-rated security to their customers.

“What we see with ESET is a really low volume of tickets that require human involvement. The ESET solution is super lightweight. I like to think ESET was born and built by gamers who didn’t want pop-ups to interrupt their games many years ago. As the solutions evolved over the years, additional layers of security have all been built on top, but the actual product installed on the device is still incredibly lightweight,” said Andrew Owens, Head of Sales, Risc IT Solutions.

The main pillars of the ESET MSP program:
Leading cybersecurity technology –ESET Protect offers multilayered security technology combining machine learning, AI, a cloud reputation system, and human expertise. With ESET PROTECT, MSPs can offer flexible subscription solutions, providing security for all major platforms.

  • Flexibility – With daily billing and monthly invoicing, customers pay for what they really use: no flat rates, with no long-term commitment. Flexible management allows users to upgrade subscriptions and adjust seat counts on their own.
  • Unified ecosystem – With ESET’s cloud-first ESET PROTECT platform, users have a complete overview of all their clients from a single pane of glass, allowing them to see and manage clients in one place.
  • Automation – ESET PROTECT Platform automation features, such as Dynamic Groups, were designed to save IT admins time and help them avoid portal fatigue.
  • Integrations – ESET actively cooperates with the major Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) and Professional Services Automation (PSA)players to create best-of-breed, in-depth integrations.

Grow with ESET
It is always a pleasure seeing a LEGO set grow in front of the builder’s eyes. The same is true for ESET seeing its partners progress and succeed. ESET sees MSPs as a whole, tailoring its solutions to meet market needs and making sure that every aspect of this business is covered. As a partner, ESET can make sure that all your bricks are supporting one another.

Cybersecurity Skills Shortage is Ranked as the Biggest Risk to MSPs and Their Clients https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=26795 Thu, 30 May 2024 07:07:18 +0000 https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=26795 Sophos has released its inaugural “MSP Perspectives 2024” survey report, which found that the biggest day-to-day challenge facing Managed Service Providers (MSP) is keeping up with the latest cybersecurity solutions/technologies, cited by 39% of the MSPs surveyed. Alongside this, MSPs indicated that hiring new cybersecurity analysts to keep up with customer growth and keep pace with the latest cyber threats were also top challenges.

The survey also reveals that MSPs perceive the shortage of in-house cybersecurity skills to be the single biggest cybersecurity risk to both their own business and their clients’ organizations. MSPs also perceive stolen access data and credentials and unpatched vulnerabilities to be amongst the biggest security risks to their customers. The latest State of Ransomware 2024 report found that nearly a third (29%) of ransomware attacks started with compromised credentials, showing the prevalence of this entry vector.

“The speed of innovation across the cybersecurity battleground means it’s harder than ever for MSPs to keep up with threats and the cyber controls designed to stop them. When you couple this with a global skills shortage, which has made it infinitely more difficult for many MSPs to attract and retain cybersecurity analyst resources, its unsurprising that MSPs feel unable to keep pace with the changing threat landscape,” said Scott Barlow vice president of MSP at Sophos. “This is all compounded by the need for 24×7 coverage as indicated in our 2023 Active Adversary report for Tech Leaders, which finds that 91% of ransomware attacks now happen out of business hours.”

In response to this complex threat landscape, there is growing demand for managed detection and response (MDR) services to provide always-on coverage. Currently 81% of MSPs offer an MDR service, and almost all (97%) MSPs that do not currently offer MDR plan to add it to their portfolio in the coming years.

Reflecting the shortage of in-house cybersecurity skills, 66% of MSPs use a third-party vendor to deliver the MDR service and a further 15% deliver jointly through their own SOC and a third-party vendor. Topping the list of essential capabilities in a third-party MDR provider is the ability to provide a 24/7 incident response service.

MSPs are also streamlining their cybersecurity partnerships, working with a small number of vendors. The study revealed that over half (53%) of MSPs work with just one or two cybersecurity vendors, rising to 83% that use between one and five. Reflecting the effort and overhead of running multiple platforms, MSPs estimate that they could cut their day-to-day management time by 48% if they could manage all their cybersecurity tools from a single platform.

Other interesting findings from the report include:

  1. 99% of MSPs report an increase in demand for cyber insurance-related support, with the most common requests including clients wanting to implement an MDR service to improve their insurability (47%) or to receive help completing their insurance application (45%).
  2. MSPs want flexibility from their MDR provider, with 71% saying it is “essential or very important” that the vendor can use telemetry from their existing security tools for threat detection and response.
  3. MSPs in the U.S. lead the way in MDR service provision with almost all (94%) already offering MDR, compared to 70% in Germany, 62% in the U.K., and 58% in Australia.

“While MSPs have a huge job to do in protecting their customers against fast-moving adversaries, there’s a tremendous opportunity to grow their business and profitability if they can find the right security set-up. The data shows that MSPs are strengthening their proposition and reducing overheads by amalgamating the platforms they use and engaging with third-party MDR vendors to expand their service offerings. As they look to build their security offering of the future, they should prioritize vendors that can offer a complete portfolio of industry-best, fully managed security services and solutions,” continued Barlow.

Data for the MSP Perspectives 2024 report comes from a vendor-agnostic survey of 350 MSPs across the U.S. (200), U.K. (50), Germany (50) and Australia (50). The survey was commissioned by Sophos and conducted by research house Vanson Bourne in March 2024.

Kaspersky Upgrades its Partner Program for MSPs https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=24738 Tue, 13 Sep 2022 12:55:09 +0000 https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=24738 Kaspersky United partner program now offers a revised rebate system, extended training courses, and more rewards for managed service providers (MSPs). The rebates become more transparent and predictable and cover more Kaspersky products and services. Training updates include new courses for MSPs, sales and technical specialists, and 10 new authorized training centers across the globe.

MSPs now also receive higher rebates and simpler status progression from registered to platinum. The innovations come in alignment with Kaspersky’s channel strategy for enhanced partner education and support, a strong focus on enterprise products and on MSPs.

The pandemic and post-pandemic period stimulated channel sales growth and increased customer demands for cloud, security, and managed services. A global MSP survey confirmed that four out of five (81%) service providers reported an increase in their client base since 2019. With new tasks and increasing competitiveness in the market, vendor support can become that crucial element that partners need for their business.

In this context, Kaspersky continues to deliver important improvements to its partner program. Within the current update, monetary benefits are more aligned with the reseller’s own goals. Monetary rewards become available for more products, services, and premium support included in the Kaspersky price list. This allows IT providers to earn more through selling a wide range of offerings. Partners can also earn rebates starting from Silver status and receive a progressive rate while moving to the next Gold and Platinum levels.

The rate also depends on which solution the sold product belongs to the initial reward is for Kaspersky Security Foundations, it increases for Kaspersky Optimum Security and reaches the maximum at Kaspersky Expert Security solution. The program also allows for a single sales target. A partner can be more flexible in its priorities and sell any mix of products – they all are accounted for in one target.

Updates in education help IT providers become savvier in the Kaspersky portfolio and its new products, deploy and provide high-profile customer support. They include the revamped onboarding program for MSPs that simplifies status acquisition, as well as new profound product courses including Kaspersky Managed Detection and Response, and Kaspersky Secure Remote Workspace.

For pre-sales and tech support experts, Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity and Kaspersky EDR Optimum technical courses with hands-on labs are now available within authorized training centers. The number of such centers for specialized technical education also increases globally, with two new already opened in the Middle East and Africa and a few more to be opened in APAC, Europe, Latin America, and Africa by the end of 2022.

Kaspersky United also empowers managed service providers with an increase in rebate rates for products included in the MSP program. These are such offerings as, for example, Kaspersky Endpoint Security Cloud, Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response, Kaspersky Managed Detection and Response service, Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity, and many more.

To help MSPs advance through from registered to silver, gold, and platinum status faster and get more privileges with each level, Kaspersky introduced 5x multiplier for MSP subscription sales. It means that a partner’s sales of subscriptions multiply five times allowing them to reach the target for the next status.

“With this update, we were keen to make the scheme of monetary benefits as simple as possible: a partner sells something according to their priorities – we count it. Rewards should encourage existing partners to expand their sales focus and look more towards the enterprise market, including products from the Optimum and Expert Security portfolios. The benefits are also very attractive to new partners, as well as to MSPs in alignment with our strategic channel development priorities. We continue investing heavily in our channel and rely on our partners for Kaspersky’s business development,” comments Ivan Tolok, Head of Channel at Kaspersky.

Here’s How MSPs Can Turn the Rising Ransomware Threat into Revenue https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=23836 Mon, 14 Feb 2022 15:36:10 +0000 https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=23836

Cybercrime is a booming business, inflicting damage to businesses estimated at $3 trillion per year and growing to $5 trillion by 2024, according to a report by Juniper Research. Cyberattacks are a costly business nightmare, resulting in profit-sapping downtime, lost revenues, brand damage, stock price losses, and regulatory fines.

The Acronis Cyber Readiness Report, which surveyed 3,400 IT managers and remote workers around the world in order to evaluate their cyber readiness before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, found that 31% of companies around the world are attacked at least once a day and that 50% of all respondents report encountering a cyberattack at least once a week during the past three months. Meanwhile, various researchers concluded that downtime costs can range from $10,000 per hour to as much as $260,000 per hour.

It’s no wonder that business and IT leaders worry that an attack could take down their company next – and their careers along with it. Download this whitepaper to find out how you can boost your business with cyber protection services!

Acronis Intros Advanced File Sync and Share for MSPs https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=22790 Thu, 29 Jul 2021 15:14:34 +0000 https://securityreviewmag.com/?p=22790 Acronis has today announced a new advanced protection pack for its service provider solution, Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. The new Advanced File Sync and Share pack build on the essential file-sharing capabilities included in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, layering additional data security capabilities such as blockchain-based data notarization and electronic signatures so service providers can strengthen their workplace collaboration services.

Demand for secure file sync and share services has skyrocketed during the past 18 months as 88% of organizations worldwide required employees to work from home and the same percentage of employees expect to keep working remotely to some degree. As a result, 67% of businesses spent more on remote tools and web conferencing.

While those trends create opportunities for managed service providers (MSPs) that deliver IT to small- to medium-sized businesses, the challenge is that traditional file sharing solutions do not address the data protection concerns of modern organizations – including control over storage locations, access to data, and what people can do with that data.

“Every survey and trend indicates remote work is here to stay, so MSPs need a way to keep client employees productive and safe when accessing and sharing valuable company data,” said Jan-Jaap “JJ” Jager, Board Advisor and Chief Revenue Officer at Acronis. “Unlike traditional file sharing solutions that are not built for service providers, Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud with Advanced File Sync and Share delivers a secure work collaboration service that empowers MSPs with multi-tiering and multi-tenancy. And since it’s integrated with our full range of backup, cybersecurity, and endpoint protection management, partners can deliver it all through a single management console.”

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud gives essential cyber protection capabilities to managed service providers (MSPs) that they can build their services on – including file sync and share on a pay-as-you-go basis. The new Advanced Files Sync and Share pack empower them with enhanced data security that traditional work collaboration solutions do not offer:

  • File notarization, powered by the Ethereum blockchain, enables clients to notarize files of any format and type, providing irrefutable proof that a file is original and unaltered. In a world where criminal use of digital editing and deepfake technology for fraud and forgery is rapidly accelerating, such notarization eliminates the risk of logs, records, videos, or images being altered.
  • Electronic signatures, which enable multiple people to sign a document remotely. The simple drag-and-drop feature helps clients along every step of their document flow – from creation to distribution to signature. The eSigning service also creates a blockchain-based certificate to ensure the authenticity of the signature and document.

In both cases, the blockchain-based certificate creates an immutable audit trail, ensuring data authenticity. Combine that with the ability to select where client data is stored, and MSPs have all they need to deliver the compliance, data sovereignty, and performance required by clients in even the most regulated industries.

“At Mindfire Technologies, we are very excited for the new advanced protection pack of Acronis Cyber Product Cloud,” said Rejeesh Kumar, VP – Technology & Strategies at Mindfire Technologies. As a business partner, it does not only help us but also helps provide our clients with the services they need. Cyber protection has become a priority and the advanced file sync and share pack will give them the peace of mind they need when it comes to securely share and accessing key data.”

The launch of Advanced File Sync and Share is part of the regular monthly enhancements made to Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, which ensure service providers can offer the most complete and up-to-date cyber protection possible. Other improvements announced include:

  • Full support and integration with VMware vCloud Director. Cloud providers hosting with vCloud Director can now offer Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud’s full range of cyber protection capabilities, with no client-side deployment and per-tenant reports for flexible billing.
  • Proactive notifications after Microsoft 365 data recovery. Clients can react quickly with proactive notifications following the recovery or downloading of backed-up data on Microsoft 365.
  • “Restore Operator” role for Microsoft 365/Google Workspace. MSPs can protect client data and prevent accessibility when assigning the “Restore Operator” role, which allows the assignee to recover data on behalf of the client/user without providing access to the content.
  • Advanced audit trail in eSignature certificate. Service providers can know the exact status of a document by viewing a detailed audit trail and tracing the flow of actions within the signature certificate.
  • Easily and selectively restore backed-up pictures and videos for Android 2.3.0. Saves time by restoring only the pictures or videos needed by quickly and easily selecting multiple files at once; by days, sequentially.
  • Backup slice management for Android 2.3.0. MSPs can view, select, delete, or restore any mobile backup slices of their choice through this intuitive slice management capability.

Service providers need to build their offerings using the tools that work for them. That’s why, to ease their administrative efforts, Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud is integrated with the commonly used RMM and PSA tools IT service providers rely on. As part of the July 2021 enhancements announced, the company also revealed four new integrations, including ConnectWise Command, Jamf Pro, CloudBlue PSA, and Matrix42.

“FixIT Computer Technologies is a user of Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud and it really helps us help our clients with the cyber protection services that are required. This new advanced protection pack is a great addition,” said Jaison Mathew, MD at FixIT Computer Technologies LLC. “Cyber protection is a must for our clients, and the Advanced File Sync and Share pack ensures that they can securely share and access sensitive data at all times.”
